Christmas lunch spot
We've just returned from our Christmas Holiday and over the next few days or so I'll be posting photos from the trip. We left Christmas Day for Thredbo and stopped in Cooma for petrol and lunch. It being Christmas day, the only things open were the petrol stations so we picked up some meat pies and found a nice spot along the road to Jindabyne. The tailgate lunch lasted for about 30 seconds when the thousands of Aussie flies drove us back inside the car. It was a lovely view none the less.
Oh, this was our Christmas tree:

And this was Chirstmas Dinner at the Pub in Thredbo:

China Human Rights Rally, Sydney
Spent most of the day with the Sydney Photobloggers and we came across a march for China Human Rights. Oh boy! More photojournalism opportunities! And perfect for the new wide angle zoom. The neat part for me was the need with the wide angle to get in really close to the action to get any picture and this made me feel a part of the event - more than an observer.

sparky on new lens
even sparky is wondering why there is such a massive lens hood on this Canon EF17-40 F4.0L zoom. I've only had it for a couple of hours. and not much daylight with it (this shot at 800 ISO) but so far, so good. The hood, yeah, massive. Expect more photos and some commentary over the weekend.

Photojournalist Rob
Remember that traffic accident I wrote about last month? Shortly after sending the pictures to the lady whose car was squished, she asked me to forward one of them to a local paper, The Sydney Weekly Courier. It's been published in this week's edition. Their website won't let me link directly to the page, but it's the November 30, 2005 edition (hmm, an American Date format on the cover, that's interesting) on page 9. Or, if you are on Sydney's North Shore you can pick up a copy just about anywhere (it's free.) The particular image they ran isn't one of my favourites from the day, but hey, they spelled my name right!

Student Loan = 0.00
At long last (10 years and one month) my student loans are paid off. It's been rather anti-climatic. Last month, 28 October was meant to be my last ever payment. Unfortunately, the automated scheduled payment and the interest calculation subroutines in the ACS computers didn't agree, and on 29 October I still owed $0.54 - due on 28 November. My first instinct was to send them a check and be done with it. But then I thought - "No way, they want my 54 cents, they can wait for it!" I assumed (oops) that the 54 cents would be processed automatically, the same as the last 120 payments. I checked my account yesterday, expecting to see the above 0.00 due - but alas, my account was delinquent! Two days past due. So I made a phone call (international, none the less) to get ACS to write off the $0.54 - I mean it was only the right thing to do. Well, they did, I owe nothing on my student loan and for those of you who ring the USA from Australia a lot, yes I'm paying Telstra a few dollars to avoid paying an American Student Loan company 54 cents - I'm sure all my American friends with student loans would have done the same thing. 28 October was my last student loan payment ever.

Taken In November 2005
The idea: Take at least one photo every day in November. I took my camera with me everywhere - and took well over 1000 images. Thanksgiving, an amusement park, a skate park, a traffic accident (one of those is even published in a local paper - I'm a photojournalist now) - it's a month in the life of me. You can see all 77 images I uploaded in this set on flickr
Today, I'm leaving the camera at home...Posted by yankinoz at 7:31 AM | Comments (2)
