Student Loan = 0.00

At long last (10 years and one month) my student loans are paid off. It's been rather anti-climatic. Last month, 28 October was meant to be my last ever payment. Unfortunately, the automated scheduled payment and the interest calculation subroutines in the ACS computers didn't agree, and on 29 October I still owed $0.54 - due on 28 November. My first instinct was to send them a check and be done with it. But then I thought - "No way, they want my 54 cents, they can wait for it!" I assumed (oops) that the 54 cents would be processed automatically, the same as the last 120 payments. I checked my account yesterday, expecting to see the above 0.00 due - but alas, my account was delinquent! Two days past due. So I made a phone call (international, none the less) to get ACS to write off the $0.54 - I mean it was only the right thing to do. Well, they did, I owe nothing on my student loan and for those of you who ring the USA from Australia a lot, yes I'm paying Telstra a few dollars to avoid paying an American Student Loan company 54 cents - I'm sure all my American friends with student loans would have done the same thing. 28 October was my last student loan payment ever.

I've *nearly* gotten mine down to 20 grand, which isn't nearly as impressive on paper but makes me feel pretty awesome, actually.

wow, mine were never that high (but close) so I guess there are some advantages to having not attended an ivy league school.

Well, ND isn't really Ivy League... We just like to think we are. I think mine was originally over 30 grand, so getting it to 20 feels like a bit accomplishment. (And I had about a 50% scholarship. I shudder to think what I'd be repaying if I hadn't...)
