eggrolls
I don't know why I like this one so much. It just cracks me up. Kris's mum was in Sydney over Easter and she made us all eggrolls - yum.

not what you're thinking
While it looks like the Wedge-Tailed Eagle is going after the much smaller Noisy Miner it's definitely the other way around (at least I think it's a Noisy Miner - could be a Myna.) The 'locals' at the Taronga Zoo were not at all impressed by the Eagle during the Free Flight Bird Show. Shame it was overcast - all the in flight photos ended up silloetted. I was pleased that I managed to get most of them in focus.

rufous owl
Had a day at the zoo yesterday with a few of my colleagues. This Rufous Owl was part of the free flight bird show - I don't know why I've never managed to see this show before - and I will never miss it in any future visits to taronga - highly, highly recommended! A few seats behind us was a child who got to be part of the show - the owl landed on his arm and we got a good close look at him - almost too close - this was shot at the closest focusing point on my EF80-200f/2.8L lens! best viewed large by the way.

Telstra Mobile Services
Never thought I'd be writing 'way to go Telstra' (at least not without being sarcastic) but way to go Telstra. Here's what happened:
My new fangled iMate Jam convergence device (that's a mobile phone mp3 player and pda all in one) came with really crappy headphones. The headphone socket on the PDA/Phone is smaller than your standard headset plug - Dick Smith sells a handy adaptor so I've been jamming along to my MP3s on some sweet Sony headphones via the handy Dick Smith adaptor - up until last Wednesday anyway when the tip of the adaptor broke off INSIDE the socket. This is a big bummer because the tip of the adaptor in the socket made the phone think the headphones were plugged in so the external speaker was off - leaving the device a silent PDA and no Phone or MP3 player.
I thought about opening up the phone and pulling the bit out myself but the phone is only three months old and I didn't want to risk voiding the warranty, in case something happens later.
My first stop was Dick Smith - their adaptor broke in my phone rendering it mostly useless so I reckon they should fix it. Good news is the store manager at the local DSE shop agreed with me and was prepared to fix it. Bad news is their repair facility is in QLD and the turnaround time is 6 weeks. Yikes. For that I was ready to pay a local repair shop to fix it.
So - next stop was the Telstra Shop I purchased the phone from. They were prepared to send the phone in as a warranty repair but they couldn't say for sure it would be fixed under warranty (I agreed and didn't expect a warranty repair) - their turn around time was 5-10 days and they suggested that if I could get out to Regent's Park, there is a Telstra Mobile Service office there that is an authorized iMate repair facility - they might be able to fix it while I wait.
A couple of unanswered phone calls and emails to TMS had me worried, so this morning I headed out there to try them in person. The guy at the counter was polite, friendly and put the phone in as a warranty repair. He warned me that it's the technician's call if it's covered under warranty or not - and I might have to pay 49.95 for the repair. Oh, and it will be ready is 2 hours. TWO HOURS. Crap, I would have paid 100 bucks for that! So I went for a coffee and came back in about an hour and was going to fire up the laptop and get some work done while waiting and was flagged back to the counter. Phone was ready. Fixed under warranty.
Way to go Telstra. I'm impressed.

rush bw
in a rush, to get somewhere - it being sydney, I'm sure they were in a rush to get to the next mobile phone store (there are at least two mobile phone shops in this image, and there's a third just off frame to the right.)

oops two
This is what happens when you step out of your air conditioned hotel room onto the hot and humid Singapore - instant soft focus filter. Takes a few minutes for the lens and filter to adjust it's temperature before you can take normal pictures.

Meiji Jingu Snow
I was archiving today and found this photo from my trip to Japan last January. Don't know why I didn't post it then. Best viewed large by the way.
