yeah - it was a great trip. We got home last night around 10:20PM, a little over 27 hours after leaving my Aunt and Uncle's place in Ft Lauderdale. Kinda sad to be home but at the same time looking forward to the regular grind...

So I would love to hear of any things you noticed about the US after being gone for a certain amount of time and getting that 'distance' from the culture to be able to look in out it as an outsider.

On my quicky trip back for 4 days a couple of weeks ago I was really struck by the vast percentage of people now walking around with cordy things sticking out of their ears in public. During rush hour I counted close to 10 out of every 20 people in downtown Chicago crowds were walking around with either an iPod or bluetooth phone stuck into their ear. Almost was gonna get an iPod until I saw that! A lot of them seemed to be talking to themselves. No one on the trains flirted or even made eye contact anymore - everyone in their own little world walled off with ear buds. Something that had been going that way for awhile, but really seems pronounced now. Self contained pod people . . . maybe it is a big city vs small town thing, dunno . . . is Sydney like that or is it truly a US thing?
