ned kelly

My favourite costume from web goddess's halloween party on Saturday night was Rodd's Ned Kelly. And yes that's Pirate Amy in the background. If you were wondering, this is what we were wearing

farm city elevator

Proof that I got the full frame thing working on my Epson V700 scanner. The default setting crop out a big chuck of the 35mm frame - changing the 'Thumbnail Cropping Area' to Large makes it scan a much larger area (including the film holder) and if you take care to line up the negative correctly you can crop it to get the oh so lovely black boarder all around the photo. There's an old darkroom trick of filing out the sides of an enlarger's film holder to include this black frame - it's not needed with the V700 but I might open it up a little...

Oh if you are wondering about the sepia tone - this is the 'colour' that came out - I normally set it to gray scale, but I kinda liked this tone so I kept it. :P

rollercoaster

I think this was an amusement park in Rockford. That's my grandfather, C Ray Anderson with me. His nickname was Kelly - my middle name. I look about 3 so I'm guessing this is from 1971. I still love rollercoasters

barker family 1975 err, more like 1978

Still looking for the photo of Nikki and me in the pool at the Sea Grape but I did find this one. I'm guessing 1975 but I'm sure Mom will be able to date it accuratly. When was Dad sporting this beard? Gotta be 75.

schoolhouse 2

put some black and whites up from university. Still getting used to the scanner and it's going to be some time before I'm getting scans that I really like. This was a particularly difficult negative to begin with - the whole roll was accidentally overexposed - something I could have corrected when I developed the film but I hadn't realised until after the film was developed. Farmer's reducer made them usable but the result to the grass in the foreground was the trade off. The scanned negative was easier to work with then my original prints of these. Nice thing about digital is you can adjust and get instant results - the original prints of this were done in two bath developers along with a lot of trail and error to get it right - took HOURS, and this one above I only spend about 15 minutes on. Need to do a hi res scan and print an A4...

sea grape

first scan from the new Epson V700 Photo Scanner. Still haven't tried any negatives. This is my grandfather, C Ray Anderson having a bit of fun at the Sea Grape hotel - mid 1960's I believe (Mom or Dad, if you know when this was taken...) Anyway, Grampa Anderson was a professional photographer and I purchased the scanner mostly for scanning his archives. I brought a bunch of slides and 4x5" negatives (lots of Rocky Mountains) home with me last time I was in the USA and I will be scanning an publishing these slowly. I'm currently trying to decide if I'll keep these in my own stream or start a new flickr account for C Ray... Oh, yeah I also have much of my own angst ridden university photography that will be showing up in my own flickr stream, and probably on my blog as well.
