Climbing update:
My elbow's pretty much healed. We are still climbing regularly and I starting to feel strong again. Getting out of bed this morning I had a good stretch and was surprised to see muscles in my arms again. I'm looking at goal setting now and back in the mid 90's I was working on several 5.12a climbs (Kris - 5.12a comes from a grading system used in the USA that is rather complex, Australia uses a much simpler system and a climb if equivalent difficulty is simply grade 25) and was really at a 5.11c/d (24) plateau. Once I got a 5.12a under my belt I was going to aim for 5.13 - the idea was 5.13 by the time I was 30 but then I met Amy and then we moved here and well life got in the way. Realistically I think it's possible for me to write this goal down now:
Grade 25 (5.12a) by Australia Day 2008 (26 January)
Longer term - 28 (5.13a) when I'm 40? That's tempting - my 41st birthday isn't until August 2009. But 28 is really bloody hard - no commitment yet, but that's a good one to think about...
Next step: Getting back to outside sport climbing. Need a new rope and we've signed up for a 'gym to rock' course - I've already found that some of my mid-90's techniques are outdated and, honestly it's been 7 years since I've used them - I need a refresher and Amy needs proper instruction.

Work Update
I got a new boss - he's located in Singapore. Seems OK so far but I haven't had a one on one with him yet. I don't blog about work so you probably won't read much more about that here. It's just one of the things in my head at the moment.

Bad Blogger
I know, I've been a bad blogger lately. Those of you who read Amy's blog will know that we are in the housing market now. Been renting too long and the Sydney market is (finally) a buyers market. We've been pre-approved by our bank for an obscene amount of money and are talking to another lender next week (yay buyers market) now all we have to do is find the perfect place in the perfect location.

"Fear and Loathing III" 5.12a (25) march 1995
I forgot I had these negatives. Jim Horst took the photos - this was my first time on Fear and Loathing III - I was back in 1996 on lead but haven't managed a clean lead assent of any 5.12a - yet...

oh clumsy me
I'm not sure when I started getting clumsy but in the last three weeks I've fallen three times hard enough to bleed.
22 December, Gerling at the Annandale: This was the last day before the Christmas break and honestly started drinking around 1PM - after "work" a friend had a house warming party, so more drinks and then off the the show. A few more drinks and in an effort to get to the toilet around midnight I stepped on hard plastic beer glass and fell down two steps. My watch caught on the edge of a step and the metal band was ripped in two as it was pulled down my forearm. Good news is I found the watch (my grandfather's) the bad news was two 1.5cm gouges in my arm. Clumsy? Or just been drinking for 11 hours? I think I can chalk that up to the beer.
New Years: uneventful
4 January, getting ready for work: after putting on horribly wrinkled pants I quickly took them off in order to iron them - lost my balance and whacked my shin into the bed post. Musta hit a nerve as the pain filled my leg and foot from point of impact all the way to my toe. All I could do is lie on the bed and wait for it to diminish - about 5 minutes. The cut was small - again about 1.5cm - and didn't bleed until a half hour later. Man, that hurt.
7 January, bouldering in Lindfield: (Bouldering is a form of rock climbing on small boulders and rock outcroppings - I know, I know, kinda asking for it eh?) Anyway it was starting to rain and our party (Tim, Miche and Amy) were all getting ready to go. None of us were really into it and I was just checking the first two moves of a very low (maybe 3m) boulder and was stepping back down the the ground. Seriously, my right foot was on the ground (um, not level ground mind you but it was the GROUND) when I let go of the boulder and slipped. Right elbow hit the edge of a rock that took off an alarming large amount of skin - not deep mind you but a 10cm x 6cm bandage just barely covers it up. Amy went into Frist Aider mode and patched me up. We all saw Happy Feet to cheer us up (it worked.)
So - Clumsy or just coincidence?
