climbing hand
photo byGadgetgirl - the hand, is mine
Looks painful, I know but wasn't too bad. Two side effects of rock climbing - a mashed up wedding ring and the aftermath of a dreaded 'flapper' (when a callus comes off and the bit of skin is sort of flapping in the breeze) - the odd thing about the scar of course is that it's shaped like Australia.
So climbing update: outdoors the weather just isn't cooperating - with any luck it won't rain tonight - rained last weekend and is meant to rain again tonight - but indoors things are going all right. Took my first lead in about 6 years last weekend - I was nervous leading up to it but once I got on the wall things felt perfectly normal. I don't know how 'hard' the route was so I still can't really judge where I am on my "grade 24 by Australia day 2008" goal but it was a jug haul up a slightly overhanging wall (about 7 meters I guess to the ceiling) and then headed out the ceiling another 10 meters or so. The first go I had to hang on the rope once - but not until the second last bolt - and mostly just because I had my hands reversed and couln't reach the last hold. After the hang I sorted the move and completed the climb. Like I said, it felt perfectly natural and on Tuesday night I did the same climb clean but the above happened.

You really must remember to take the ring off when climbing . . . or chopping wood, using a hammer, sawing and other 'manly' endeavours :-) A 'biner works wonders for that. Congrats on the first lead in 6 years!
